Search For Miami Beach Fugitive

Police are searching for a convicted criminal who pulled a gun on a Miami Beach Commissioner, in April.

Commissioner Joe Magazine says Christopher Pitre, 35, cut off his ankle monitor and disappeared from a substance abuse treatment center in Homestead, Tuesday.

Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner talked yesterday about the escape and search for Pitre.

Pitre was serving time for a crime spree that included pointing a gun at Commissioner Magazine four months ago. Pitre was behind bars until a county judge recently ruled he could go on house arrest despite the objections of prosecutors. Now, Meiner is calling for the state to allow the city to be able to elect its own judges.
