The CDC is warning of a multistate salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers likely grown in Florida.

In an update, the Center of Disease Control (CDC) announced Salmonella Africana and Salmonella Braenderup infections, which were originally reported as two separate outbreaks.

The outbreak has affected over 449 people across 31 states, leading to 125 hospitalizations but no reported deaths.

The CDC believes the actual number of people affected is likely higher, as many recover without medical care and are not tested for Salmonella.

The CDC has assured the public that there is likely no ongoing risk as the cucumber growing and harvesting season for these farms is over, and there is no product from these farms on the market.

Two Florida growers have been identified as likely sources according to a multistate investigation by the FDA and the CDC into Thomas Produce Company of Boca Raton and Bedner Growers, Inc., of Boynton Beach, Florida.

The FDA says they found to have multiple strains of Salmonella, and the cucumbers were distributed through Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc., which has issued a voluntary recall.

According to the FDA, "The two Florida farms do not account for all the cases, the agency said, and there is little chance for continued exposure."

"Bedner Growers, Inc.’s and Thomas Produce Company’s cucumber growing and harvesting season is over," the FDA said. "There is no product from these farms on the market and likely no ongoing risk to the public."

No one has died from Salmonella linked to the infected cucumbers, the CDC said.
