Florida International University is launching a bachelor’s degree in data science and artificial intelligence to help students stay ahead of the AI technology curve.

FIU Professor Gregory Reis says his computer science department has been working on the AI Bachelor program for two years.

Other schools around the country, such as MIT, are offering AI degrees, but not in the field of computer sciences.

Reis says this concept is new and will teach students how to create AI programs and how to use them ethically in the real world.

Registration is underway at FIU for fall classes including the new AI program.

Reis says, "The new AI degree consists of several courses in computer science, statistics and mathematics. The degree will allow students to land jobs in healthcare, finance and construction. And to use the technology in a responsible and ethical way."
