Port Charlotte Man Arrested After Machete Attack on Bicyclist

Port Charlotte, FL - A Southwest Florida man was arrested last week after allegedly attacking a bicyclist with a machete.

Police say 40-year-old Andrew Shattuck is accused of approaching a cyclist on Collingswood Boulevard and Cedarwood Street and hurling racist and homophobic slurs before attempting to strike the victim with a machete.

The bicyclist managed to escape unharmed, and Shattuck was apprehended nearby with the machete in his possession.

Residents of the area expressed relief at Shattuck's arrest, describing him as a disruptive and intimidating presence in the neighborhood.

Shattuck is currently in custody at the Charlotte County Jail.
