An Opa-locka Cop Fired For Second Time In 14-Year Career

A veteran Opa-locka police sergeant is off the job for using his taser inside the police department in 2021, injuring a fellow cop. City Manager Darvin Williams says Sergeant Sergio Perez violated department policy and was criminally charged. This isn't the first time Perez has been fired. In 2013, he was let go after being accused of taking part in a wrong-way chase on I-95 ending in a deadly crash. He was under investigation for allegedly abusing a mentally ill teen during an arrest in 2020.
