Cape Coral, FL - A Southwest Florida woman was taken into custody on Thursday after fleeing a traffic stop and crashing her vehicle while children were unrestrained in the backseat.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD), officers observed 32-year-old Royteshia Denson dropping off two children in the roadway near Island Coast High School around 7 a.m.

When the officer approached Denson's vehicle to address the unsafe drop-off, they noticed four young children in the backseat without seatbelts or restraints.

After informing Denson that she could not leave without proper child restraints, police say Denson stated, "I don't have time for this" and drove away at a high rate of speed.

Denson attempted to turn right onto Garden Boulevard from Navarra Parkway, but lost control of her vehicle, driving over the grass and striking another vehicle waiting at a stop sign.

Denson was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail on charges of fleeing from law enforcement and child neglect.

She also received citations for the unrestrained children in her vehicle.

The CCPD is continuing an investigate into Thursday's accident.
