TALLAHASSEE -- After a month-long pause, scallop season is back on in Pasco County waters starting Wednesday (28).

The state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission suspended scalloping back on July 24th because algae blooms were producing toxins that can build up in shellfish and make people sick.

FWC says toxin levels are now back in the safe zone, but you should only eat the scallop muscle as a precaution.

This year's harvest season will run until September 24th in waters from the Hernando-Pasco line to the Anclote Key lighthouse, including the Gulf and Anclote River.
