South Ocean Closes Once Again Near Mar-a-Lago, Sheriff Explains The Rules

The latest word from the Palm Beach Police Department is that South Ocean Boulevard will once again be closed today "until further notice" between South County Road and Southern Boulevard.

Local law enforcement officials continue to ask for patience from drivers near Mar-a-Lago as these on and off road closures will continue at least until the November election.

Concerns sparked up the last time Police announced that South Ocean was closed until further notice because it had previously been stated that the roadway would only be closed when former President Trump was home and he's been on the road campaigning.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw has been working with the town on these closures. He says there is an abundance of caution since the attempt on Trump's life in July.

"Number one he's a former president, so he has a level of protection higher than most people would have. And then as soon as that assassination attempt occurred, then everything changes. At Mar-a-Lago, that level of protection actually became as much as he had when he was president."

After that August 25th closure, police announced four days later that South Ocean had reopened again.

Bradshaw says the rule-of-thumb is that if the former president leaves town and will be gone at least 48 hours, the roadway can reopen.

"You gotta understand closing this road and setting up the checkpoints don't happen in 15, 20 minutes. You've got cement barricades that have to be put there with front-end loaders. It's a five or six hour proposition to do."
