We're finding out more about a high school stabbing in Martin County.

Authorities say a 14-year old boy is now recovering at home after being slashed in the stomach with a razor blade by another boy while they were at football practice at Jensen Beach High Monday evening.

Sheriff William Snyder tells CBS 12 News that the whole thing started over an argument about who is a better football player. Both teens were on the school's Junior Varsity team.

“The tragedy of this of course we have a child who is injured, but the one who did the stabbing has irrevocably changed his life. It’s altered forever. He’ll pay the consequences of this action for the rest of his life.”

Snyder says it began as a fist fight before the suspect left and returned with a box cutter.

He was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery.

In a call to parents, the principal asked them to be a "partner in education and safety."
