East Hillsborough's Newsome High Placed On Lockdown After Possible Threat

UPDATE #2: No weapon was found. Students with their own cars were released at 2:50 p.m. Others will be released at 3:25 p.m. to be picked up by parents. Sheriff Chronister says about two hundred deputies were involved in responding to the threat.

UPDATE: Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister says they have not found a weapon on campus but are continuing to meticulously survey it before allowing students out for the day. "Parents, I feel your frustration... every student and staff member is safe." Specialty units remain on scene as of 2:10 p.m. to actively search for potential threats.

LITHIA -- Newsome High School is on lockdown as Hillsborough deputies investigate what they call a "potential threat".

The sheriff's office says no one is permitted to go on campus at this time.

Newsome is on Fishhawk Boulevard in the Lithia - Fish Hawk Ranch area of east Hillsborough County.

Parents are being told to park in the Shops of Fishhawk across the street and not attempt to pick up students on campus.

This follows a series of threats against several schools in the Tampa Bay area and across Florida.
