NEW PORT RICHEY -- Pasco County is responding after discovering two cases of dengue virus.

It's usually spread by mosquitoes and officials say both patients were infected locally.

Spraying is going on in the western part of the county, north of Ridge Road. Mosquito control officials are targeting both adult mosquitoes and larvae.

The mosquito that spreads dengue is active all throughout the day. That means people living in or visiting the affected area and going outdoors should cover arms and legs, or use insect repellent.

Pasco County Mosquito Control District executive director Adriane Rogers also recommends draining and discarding items that collect standing water, such as buckets, pet dishes and birdbaths.
