TALLAHASSEE -- Governor DeSantis and other state officials are staying put in the emergency operations center in Tallahassee, as Hurricane Helene heads for landfall in the Big Bend just a few miles to the south.

Florida's governor is expecting a lot of damage when Hurricane Helene makes landfall in the Big Bend area and slides toward Tallahassee. But he says Gulf Coast areas that are out of the cone still have reason to worry about storm surge. DeSantis says Helene has a huge footprint and most of the state will feel it in some form. That may not mean Category 3 winds everywhere in the state, but most will experience blustery conditions at best.

DeSantis says the state has sent generators to 130 gas stations around the state, to keep the pumps open.
