Miami-Dade Schools Closed Ahead Of Hurricane Milton

Miami-Dade, FL - Miami-Dade County Public Schools has announced that all schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday due to the impending threat of Hurricane Milton.

While the storm's direct path has shifted, South Florida is still expected to experience significant impacts, including potential flooding.

The district has also suspended school-related activities starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Twitter, Miami-Dade schools announced "Important update! Due to recent developments and in collaboration with Miami-Dade County’s Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service, all @MDCPS school-related activities inclusive of adult education will be suspended as of 6 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2024. After-school care will remain open, but parents are encouraged to pick up their children as early as possible. All M-DCPS schools, as well as Region and District offices, will be CLOSED on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, due to #HurricaneMilton. After-school care will remain open, but parents are encouraged to pick up their children early.

This decision was made in coordination with local emergency management officials and the National Weather Service.

Hurricane Milton continues to strengthen as it barrels toward Florida.

As of Monday evening, the storm is a Category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 180 mph.

Forecasters predict it could intensify further before making landfall on the state's west coast later this week.
