Stuart, FL - A Stuart homeowner was surprised to find a large alligator swimming in his backyard pool after Hurricane Milton.

Emile De Cuba discovered a large alligator swimming in his backyard pool around 11:30 Friday.

The reptile had managed to breach the home's fenced yard, likely by scaling the chain-link fence.

De Cuba contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), who removed the 4-foot gator.

"It was quite a shock," De Cuba told WPTV . "I've never seen anything like it before."

According to De Cuba, the alligator likely originated from a nearby retention pond.

The FWC has advised that such incidents are more common after hurricanes, as the reptiles may become disoriented.
