Miami, FL - The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a low-pressure system in the central Atlantic that has the potential to develop into a tropical depression by the end of the week.

According to NHC, the system is battling dry air and wind shear, hindering its development in the short term.

However, as the system moves westward, it may encounter more favorable conditions for formation.

By the weekend, there's a 60% chance of tropical development.

If a depression forms, it's expected to approach the Leeward Islands by Saturday or Sunday.

Additionally, another area of low pressure is being watched by NHC in the western Caribbean.

While the current development chances are around 20%, it doesn't appear to pose a threat to the U.S. or South Florida.

So far in the 2024 hurricane season, 13 named storms have developed, with 9 of those becoming hurricanes, including 4 storms that became major hurricanes.
