The highest king tides of the year are taking place now through Tuesday.

"We just encourage people to make sure that their property, their pets, everybody is away from the flooded areas," says Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis.

He stresses the city has been investing in infrastructure, including new sea walls, and are encouraging residents to build new and higher walls to keep the rising waters at bay.

While pump trucks are available, they can not reduce flooding during the peak tidal times.

Residents in low-lying areas can park for free at two city garages.

Dania Beach and Miami aofficials have also warned people to stay out of the rising salt water.

Miami Beach offers free temporary parking for residents who register.
