Orlando, FL - New specialty license plates are set to hit Florida roads thanks to House Bill 403, which took effect earlier this month.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is introducing a range of new designs, including plates themed around Universal Orlando, The Villages, and Margaritaville.

Each specialty plate will cost an additional $15 to $25 a year, with a portion of the proceeds going to a designated organization.

For example, the Margaritaville-themed plate benefits Jimmy Buffett's charity "Singing for Change," which supports disaster relief efforts.

Pre-sale vouchers for the following new specialty plates are now on offer:

    • Boating Capital of the World
    • Cure Diabetes
    • Clearwater Marine Aquarium
    • Margaritaville
    • Project Addiction: Reversing the Stigma
    • Recycle Florida
    • Support General Aviation
    • The Villages: May All Your Dreams Come True
    • United Service Organizations
    • Universal Orlando Resort

Each plate has two years to sell 3,000 vouchers before it will be manufactured.

If a plate fails to meet this target, it will be deauthorized, and pre-sale voucher holders can request a refund.

Drivers can order pre-sale vouchers through their local tax collector's office.

Online orders require the driver's license plate number or the recipient's if the voucher is a gift.

Official designs for the new specialty plates have not been released yet.

The state has specific guidelines for all specialty plate designs, including size, character formatting, and placement of the graphic.
