Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A Richmond police officer is expected to recover after getting shot last night during a traffic stop.

Police say just before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, the officer was conducting a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Fairfield Avenue in Richmond’s East End.

“After observing suspicious movements in the vehicle, officers directed the occupants out of the car,” Richmond Police said.

One shot was fired and a man got out of the car and fled the scene. The officer was rushed to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

The search continues for the suspect, and Richmond police are investigating. Detectives canvassed the neighborhood for information on the identity and whereabouts of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Major Crimes Detective M. Gouldman at 804-646-3915.
