Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond leaders held what they called a “community conversation” at VCU’s Larrick Student Center on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The conversation focused on student conduct and its impact on the community.

It was hosted by Commonwealth’s Attorney College McEachin, and representatives from Richmond Public Schools (RPS) and the Richmond Police Department (RPD) participated.

The meeting comes amid a spike in threats against schools, both locally and across the country. Earlier this month, several local districts were impacted by threats of violence and danger.

Tuesday’s meeting was attended by about two dozen parents and teachers, and it focused on providing a better understanding of how youth behavior and conduct is handled. Conversations focused on school security, ways of combating violence, and how students interact with school resource officers.

The panelists for the discussion included Renesha Parks, the Chief Wellness Officer for Richmond Public Schools, Sergeant Stacy Rogers with Richmond Police, and Allison Linscott, the Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney for Juvenile and Domestic Relations.

RPS is holding a community conversation on cell phone-free education next Monday, Sept. 30 at River City Middle School. This meeting will also focus on some of the policies about topics that were discussed on Tuesday, according to officials.
