Nice but hot July 4th expected across the Wiregrass
DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)– The dog days of summer continue across the state of Alabama with temperatures remaining in the low to mid 90s. We are not under any heat advisories today but that will not stop “feels like ” temperatures to rise in the low 100s. Today, I have temperatures around 94 degrees as the high today, and rain chances around 40%. Low temperatures will remain in mid to upper 70s and rain chances will remain fairly low as the sun goes down.
Midday Nowcast: Dog Days of Summer
Officially we are in them as they run from July 3rd through August 11th, more about them in a minute. The weather is hot and very humid with highs in the mid to upper 90s for most places this afternoon. Moisture levels are rising as dew points are in the 70s, and that is causing heat index values to climb into the danger range across most of Alabama. A heat advisory continues for most of Alabama today, and likely for the next several days. Rain chances today are low across the northern half of the state, but will begin to rise in the coming days as well.

Brewing up success in a historic Dothan building
They take coffee seriously at Mural City Coffee Co. Open since 2018, this espresso bar and roastery in historic downtown Dothan is a business and preservation success story. The company takes its name from the many murals that adorn Dothan’s older structures, a project that began in the 1990s and sparked a downtown revitalization. There isn’t a mural on the side of Mural City Coffee Co.’s building. But, long ago, there used to be. In the early 20th century, a farming-supply and mercantile store owned by William Singletary and A.D. Whiddon originally occupied the space. A stylized mural advertising International brand farming machinery covered the side wall. In the mid-1930s, Archie Carmichael, Singletary’s nephew, purchased Whiddon’s share of the company. Thereafter, it became known as the Carmichael Building. Folks who grew up around Dothan in the 1980s and ’90s likely remember it as the home of Carmichael Electronics.
