    L-S volleyball opens season with pair of wins

    BROOKLYN — The Lynnville-Sully volleyball team used 27 aces to win its first two matches of the season on Tuesday.

    The Hawks played a pair of non-conference opponents at BGM High School and came away with two three-game sweeps to start their 2024 campaign.

    “The girls did well on serve receive and we’re happy with how they played,” L-S head volleyball coach Heather James said. “We’re getting ready for Thursday’s home quad, which will be against some tougher teams.”

    Lynnville-Sully defeated Colo-NESCO 25-9, 25-21, 25-15 and swept Cedar Valley Christian 25-9, 25-14, 25-12.

    Against C-N, Kate Harthoorn led the Hawks with 10 assists, four kills, four digs and three aces.

    Alaina Roberts added 12 assists and seven digs and Tatum Huyser chipped in six kills and six digs.

    Jakeira Hay, Breah Lowry, Ava Brummel and Terriyah Carter all made their varsity debuts. Hay collected seven kills, five digs and two aces, Lowry tallied four digs and six aces, Brummel totaled four kills, two digs and two aces and Carter finished with four kills and four digs.

    The Hawks (2-0) were 65-of-72 in serves with 14 aces. Their kill efficiency was .144. Lowry served 22-of-22 and Hay’s kill efficiency was .353.

    Colo-NESCO (0-2) was led by Abigail Kettwig, who finished with three kills, seven digs and two aces. Cerra Muntz dished out five assists.

    Lynnville-Sully served up 13 aces against Cedar Valley Christian (0-5) and was 66-of-71 in serves. The Hawks’ kill efficiency was .268.

    Harthoorn led the way with 12 assists, two kills, two digs and eight aces and she was 8-of-8 in serves.

    Roberts tallied 11 assists, four digs and two aces, Huyser totaled eight kills and six digs and Hay added seven kills, seven digs and two aces.

    Brummel finished with five kills, two digs and two aces and Lowry chipped in three digs and two aces. Hay and Huyser had a kill efficiency of .500 and .375, respectively, and Brummel was 8-of-8 in serves.

    Ashlan Cordes and Savanah Routier made their varsity debuts. Cordes put down four kills and served up two aces and Routier totaled four digs.
