CMPD won't answer questions about officers seemingly unavailable during deadly ambush
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — (WARNING: To help explain the day's events, limited scanner traffic was used but may may still be triggering for some) As a gunman pinned down officers with rapid gunfire in April, killing four men, police displayed heroism that day, risking their own lives to try and save their fellow officers. Hundreds of them rushed to help in whatever way they could, but not all of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's on-duty officers responded on one of the city's darkest days and that's left some officers asking, "Why?"
New Amazon facility opens in Fayetteville
The giant new Amazon Fulfillment Center near Fort Liberty is starting to show signs of life. The new Amazon facility opened in June in Fayetteville at 6309 Bragg Blvd. The 1.3 million-square-foot-facility located in the Military Business Park was supposed to open in 2023, but a representative from Amazon told WRAL News the delay won't stop the company in its plans to hire 1,000 employees at the site.

US census takers to conduct test runs in Colorado 4 years before 2030 count
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Six places in the South and West will host practice runs for the next U.S. head count in 2030. The census helps determine political power and the distribution of federal funds. Residents of western Texas; tribal lands in Arizona; Colorado Springs, Colorado.; western North Carolina; Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Huntsville, Alabama, will be encouraged to fill out practice census questionnaires in the spring of 2026. Census Bureau officials said Monday that they hope the tests will help ensure that in 2030, they count the people who were missed in the 2020 census.
