    Newton High School Wrestling Alumna Competes in National Championship

    NEWTON, NJ—Newton High School’s wrestling alumna Eva Barry competed in the Women’s Freestyle National Championship this weekend in Fargo, North Dakota.

    According to the Newton High School Wrestling coach Eric Bollette, Barry started the championship as the 18-seeded competitor in the Junior 140 lb. class.

    Each round was posted by Bollette on the Newton High School Wrestling Facebook page so that all those following would know how Barry was doing throughout the day.

    “Great comeback win by Eva to stay alive in the wrestlebacks. After falling behind 6-0 to NJ state runner-up Julia Fongaro (Boonton), Eva battles back for the fall in 4:18. What a great match!! GO BRAVES!!!”

    “Eva Barry wins by fall of Hailey Ramos (KS) in 1:20!”

    “Eva bounces back with a fall over Madeline Faulkner (WI) (2:33) GO BRAVES!!!”

    “Eva falls to Taydem Bylin (WA), ending the tournament with a 3-2 record. Not bad for her first national level event!! She will be back and better next year. So proud of how she wrestled. GO BRAVES!!!”
