Preseason football games set for Miners, Panthers
NEWTOWN – The Mingo Central High School football team will certainly get a tough test right out of the gate in the upcoming 2024 season. The Miners are scheduled to open up the preseason on Friday, Aug. 16 at home as Mingo Central is slated to host Kentucky state powerhouse Johnson Central at Mingo's Buck Harless Stadium in a 7 p.m. start.

NEWTOWN – Jeremy Dillon's high school football career is well documented. The former Kennedy Award winner led Mingo Central to the 2016 Class AA state championship and put up video game-like numbers in two seasons with the Miners, passing for a staggering 5,699 yards and 78 touchdowns, while running for 2,551 yards and another 44 scores.
Father and son arrested for attacking man in Pilgrim
PILGRIM — A father and son were arrested July 17 in Martin County following an altercation on KY-2032 that resulted in minor injuries, authorities said. Warren Jude, 62, and his son, Tyler Jude, 35, both of Pilgrim, were taken into custody after Chief Deputy Chris Kidd of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Warren Jude Road.
