SF-based Super Duper Burgers plans to open new location in city

( KRON ) — San Francisco-based burger chain Super Duper Burgers is planning to open a new location in the city, a company spokesperson said. The restaurant will be in the Sunset District at 737 Irving St., according to documents from the San Francisco Planning Department.

Super Duper says the location will open this fall but didn’t specify a date. The restaurant will be located at the former site of Fresca Restaurant, which closed in 2023.

Super Duper opened its first location in 2010 in San Francisco’s Castro District. There are currently 17 Super Duper Burgers across the Bay Area — as far north as Napa and south as Los Gatos.

As of Monday, the city granted Super Duper Burgers a “conditional use authorization” to open in San Francisco.

Though a locally-founded business, in the eyes of San Francisco, Super Duper Burgers is a chain since it has “eleven or more other retail sales establishments in operation.” The city regulates which chains can open to “maintain neighborhood individuality,” according to the SF Planning Department .

Super Duper opens in an area that only has one other burger spot. Small business Jenny’s Burger on 9th Avenue has been a burger staple in the neighborhood for more than a decade.
