Internet, Video Losses Continue for Charter
Charter Communications posted a second-quarter increase in net income and revenue despite continuing losses of internet and video customers.Net income at Stamford, Connecticut-based Charter rose 0.5% to $1.23 billion, or $8.49 a share, from $1.22 billion, or $8.05 a share a year ago. Prime Video Sets Canelo Alvarez Pay-Per-View Boxing Card for September
Prime Video will again step into the pay-per-view boxing ring to distribute the September 14 Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga super middleweight championship bout.The fight card from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which also features a co-main event bout between middleweight champion Erislandy Lara and Danny Garcia, will be Prime Video’s fourth PPV boxing event this year and its second featuring Alvarez, arguably PPV boxing’s most lucrative draw. The undisputed middleweight champion headlined Prime Video’s May 4 PPV card against Jaime Munguia, which reportedly drew more than 500,000 PPV buys. The Alvarez-Berlanga PPV fight is slated to occur on the same day as a scheduled UFC mixed martial arts PPV event in Las Vegas. USA Network, Jordan Peele Team for ‘Scare Tactics’ Reboot
USA Network is rebooting Syfy’s 2000’s prank series Scare Tactics, with Jordan Peele helming the project that will launch this fall.The hidden camera series will look to turn unsuspecting individuals into the main characters of their very own horror movies, according to the network. The original Scare Tactics series, produced by Scott Hallock and Kevin Healey, ran on Syfy from 2003 to 2009. Shannen Doherty, Stephen Baldwin and Tracy Morgan served as hosts during its run. Amazon Says Global Viewership for Season 4 of ‘The Boys’ Grew 20%
Amazon Prime Video said that global viewership for its superheroes gone bad series The Boys grew by 20% from Season 3. Through July 21, the first weekend after Prime Video dropped the Season 4 finale, The Boys has drawn 44 million viewers.That makes it the fourth-most-watched TV series on the service, and the second-most-0viewed returning series for Prime Video, following only Season 2 of Reacher. The Boys has now increased its viewership in each of its four seasons. The show has also spawned a spinoff, Gen V.Amazon said that 60% of The Boys Season 4 audience was based outside of the U.S. International viewing was strongest in the U.K., Brazil, India, Germany, Canada, France, Mexico, Spain and Italy.Season 5 will be the last one for The Boys. Amazon has not yet set a release date. Karl Urban, Anthony Starr and Jack Quaid star in the series.The Boys is based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who are executive producers, along with showrunner Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and a bevy of others.
Nielsen’s Gracenote Gets Into Contextual Ad Game
Nielsen’s Gracenote unit said it is selling its metadata about the content of television shows and movies for use in targeting connected-TV advertising campaigns.Gracenote said Cineverse, DirecTV Advertising, Philo, Tastemade and Xumo will begin using the program-level metadata to engage consumers.The data will also be used by Peer39 to determine the contextual suitability and quality of content for advertisers and by Magnite, which will use the data to help programmatic CTV buyers.Gracenote’s data had previously mainly been used by content owners and distribution platforms to help viewers discover content they want to watch, increasing the size of their audiences.“For CTV...
