FEMA authorizes funds to fight Texas fire in Latah and Nez Perce Counties
KENDRICK, Idaho — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to aid with the firefighting costs in Latah and Nez Perce Counties. The request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) was approved on July 16 around 9 p.m. by the FEMA Region 10 Administrator after he determined that the fire could constitute a major disaster if left without proper resources.
Air quality advisory rescinded for Nez Perce County, but smoky skies likely to linger
Smoke from nearby wildfires has dissipated enough in Lewiston and Nez Perce County for the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality to rescind its air quality advisory. According to a news release from the agency, air quality now allows for open burning in areas not subject to fire safety regulations or areas on the Nez Perce Reservation.

Another Boat Safety Class Offered Sunday in Lewiston
Boaters regardless of experience are encouraged to take a boating safety class to learn about Idaho boating laws and pick up some boating safety tips. The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office is conducting another boat safety course this Sunday, July 21st from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office training room, located at 1150 Wall Street in Lewiston.
UPDATE: Stage Coach Road Closed Until Further Notice
(Lewiston, ID) Stage Coach Road is effectively closed until further notice. All gates have been closed and locked according to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office. UPDATE: An overturned Semi is the cause of the road closure. The semi was originally heading to Clearwater Paper with a full load of paper. No one was injured in the rollover. Man has charges dismissed, refiled for lewd conduct
A Lenore man had charges dismissed for lewd conduct but the charges were refiled. Shawn C. Kleemeyer, 43, of Lenore, was charged with lewd conduct with a minor June 26. A victim reported to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office that Kleemeyer had allegedly been inappropriately touching her in multiple incidents from 2021-22 when she was 11 or 12 years old, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

UPDATE AT 4:36 P.M.: Area east of Lewiston closed after report of shots fired; sheriff's office describes situation as 'active incident'
According to a post on the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the area of 800 Lapwai Road is closed because of an "active incident." The intersection of Lapwai Road and Lindsey Creek Road is closed but Gun Club Road is still open.
