Heading into the 2024 NFL season, not many players out of college are as hyped by the experts and the media as the Chicago Bears ‘ No. 1 pick Caleb Williams. There have been some excellent players to have joined the NFL in the years past, but the overall expectations put on this young kid’s shoulders are at the next level.

Having said that, there is good reason for not just analysts, but for fans of the game to be excited to have the former Heisman Trophy winner in the league this year. While transitioning from college football to the professional league is not easy for even the best of the best, many are of the opinion that the Bears QB will hit it off as soon as his rookie season.

Should Williams deliver a performance similar to that of C.J. Stroud in 2023, there is every bit of a chance that he can be the MVP for 2024.

Here’s why Williams can, in fact, be an MVP candidate.

    Ability to make plays

From an individual aspect, the most important part of Williams’ game is his ability to make plays at a high level. His college tape and games have shown time and again how he is able to scramble, buy time, and make plays that seem impossible to replicate on the field.

College numbers are not always the best way to measure the type of success an NFL player will have. However, it will also be hard to argue against a player who has a nearly 67% completion rate, over 9,700 passing yards, 93 touchdowns, and just 14 interceptions from his three years of college.

Moreover, it is his play style comparison with Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes that makes it interesting. His play is quite reminiscent of Mahomes in that both signal callers are able to improvise in tough situations and make plays with their hands and feet. Like Mahomes, Williams has the ability to make throws on the fly despite not being in the best throwing position possible.

    Bears’ offensive talent

Williams will be heading joining a Bears offensive unit that has quality players all around.

The Bears have done an excellent job of finding the holes and filling them with players who have proven themselves at this level.

Last offseason, Chicago added a big piece to their offense by bringing in D.J. Moore from Carolina. This year, they have done even better with the additions of Keenan Allen and D’Andre Swift, who is coming off a great season with the Eagles.

Adding more to the offensive unit in Chicago is the 2024 No. 9 overall pick, Rome Odunze, who is considered the second-best receiver from the draft this year.

With so much explosive talent surrounding him on the offensive side of the ball, Williams will have ample opportunities to make big plays, especially with the way he operates.

    Improved team overall

Last season the Bears were not expected to do too well. They quickly fell to an 0-4 start, and at one point near the halfway stage, they were 2-7. However, they were able to turn things around to an extent. They also acquired key defensive end Montez Sweat to bolster the defense.

Finishing with a 7-10 record, Chicago heads into the new season with momentum and a certain confidence in their stride. It also means that Williams will not have all the burden placed squarely on his shoulders and that he will benefit from other guys stepping up to make plays.
