3 Reasons The Buffalo Bills Will Win The AFC East Again

The Buffalo Bills are in for a revelatory season. After years of fans doubting the validity of Josh Allen’s rise, the quarterback has the potential to confirm his status near the top of the AFC. Even if he falls short of that mantle, the floor for him is winning the AFC East.

There are several reasons for this, but here are the top three.

An object in motion stays in motion

Put simply, most divisions work in patterns. Usually, there is one team that wins the division for long stretches of time and it takes an injury or a retirement of another player to take their place.

Currently, the Bills are on a four-year AFC East win streak. Even if the team isn’t quite as good this year, opponents know deep down that they are supposed to lose against them.

Psychologically removing that wall once it is built can be nearly impossible. After four years, that wall is like the Berlin Wall. It could be quite some time before it is taken down, which includes the 2024 season.

Aaron Rodgers won’t live up to expectations

The New York Jets are most likely to be the biggest challengers to the Bills. Aaron Rodgers is set to start the season healthy, and the Jets are hungry to learn what it feels like on the top. However, even before Rodgers’ Achilles injury last season, he wasn’t playing on a division-winning level. He threw for just 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2022, and is currently riding a multi-year decline.

If Rodgers couldn’t make the playoffs in the NFC with the Packers two years ago, he is unlikely to win the AFC East this year.

    Keon Coleman will beat expectations

Not many are talking about Keon Coleman’s ability to replace Stefon Diggs. Most have written off the rookie, but not many have talked about how much Diggs took a step back in his final season in Buffalo. Diggs totaled just 1183 yards and eight touchdowns last season, failing to earn 100 yards in his final 11 games of the season.

For Coleman to match Diggs, he only needs to earn about 1000 yards as a rookie, which is far from unheard of. According to ESPN’s depth chart , Coleman is on deck to be the Bills’ No. 2 receiver behind the veteran Khalil Shakir. As such, it should be even easier for Coleman to match Diggs’ down production last season.

If that happens, the Bills should be in great shape to maintain their status atop the AFC East.
