3 Washington Commanders Players To Watch In 2024 NFL Season

    By Ian Van Roy,

    2024-08-09

The Washington Commanders are a team hoping for a quick turnaround. However, most fans are braced for a longer wait time. That said, the team has laid the necessary groundwork for a much different feeling team in the next two seasons.

Of course, while rebuilds usually take longer than planned for, sometimes they happen faster as well. Working under the new ownership of Josh Harris, this might not be the same old Commanders team.

Here’s a look at three players who could be the tide that raises the Commanders this season.

    Jayden Daniels

As a rookie not named Caleb Williams, Daniels has gone relatively under the radar as far as No. 2 overall picks are concerned. However, that doesn’t mean he should be ignored in 2024, either.

Commanders fans undoubtedly will be watching on the edge of their seats, but national fans should be keeping an eye on him, as well.

If Daniels can look like CJ Stroud for even a handful of games this year, the Commanders have an exciting future still on the table. However, if he puts out a Bryce Young-like season needing a mulligan, there will be reason for long-term worry with the team.

    Brian Robinson Jr.

Brian Robinson Jr. started training camp in second place on the Commanders’ depth chart at running back. Now, however, he ranks ahead of Austin Ekeler. That opens up the possibility for Robinson to look great this season. That said, it was unclear whether it was Ekeler taking a step back this summer or Robinson surging. Still, overtaking Ekeler this quickly is reason to believe in the third-year running back.

    Luke McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey’s brother is now in the NFL. By namesake alone, fans will have a great interest in watching another McCaffrey. The running back is on the cover of Madden after building his name on the East Coast. With such a high bar set with Christian, it will be a wonder to see what Luke McCaffrey brings to the table. Luke’s father, Ed McCaffrey, also was a star wide receiver in the NFL, so there are several familial reasons why the new Commanders receiver could pop.

If anyone doubts the possibility, one only needs to look at the Manning family and the Watt family as precedents for football families surging in the NFL.
