Buffalo Bills Predicted To Cut 2-Time Super Bowl Champion

The Buffalo Bills overhauled their wide receiver depth chart this offseason. Their top two playmakers from last season, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, both moved on this past offseason.

Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans, while Davis signed a free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Khalil Shakir is the top holdover from last season and he will be joined by plenty of new faces.

Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Chase Claypool, K.J. Hamler and Marquez Valdes-Scantling were all signed in free agency. In the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bills also selected Florida State star Keon Coleman.

It would be fair to assume that not all of those players will be making the 53-man roster for the regular season. Some changes are going to be made, and Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report believes that it is Valdes-Scantling who is on the chopping block.

After helping the Kansas City Chiefs win the last two Super Bowls, Valdes-Scantling was let go earlier this offseason. He has carved out a nice NFL career for himself after being a sixth-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in the 2018 NFL Draft.

With incredible speed, Valdes-Scantling has been a productive deep threat throughout his career. But, the numbers game could be working against him with the Buffalo Bills, as Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic believes he is facing an uphill battle.

“Valdes-Scantling has faded into the background in the last few practices,” he wrote. “He has yet to make a strong impression in the passing game during team drills, and his opportunities with quarterback Josh Allen and the top unit have dwindled.”

That certainly isn’t a good sign for his outlook of earning a roster spot on the team. Knox noted that the contract Valdes-Scantling signed this offseason, a one-year, $2.25 million deal, isn’t enough to guarantee him a roster spot.

With Claypool going on the injured reserve, Valdes-Scantling could hold onto a deep reserve spot on the Buffalo Bills roster. But, if needs arise on the roster, the wide receiver position is one that could be thinned out to make room.
