Green Bay Packers’ New Addition Named Team’s Biggest X-Factor

    By Nick Ziegler,

After a great 2023 campaign for the Green Bay Packers, the organization is hoping for even better things in 2024.

This offseason, the Packers made some notable adjustments and are hoping to take the next step forward as a franchise.

Last season was a big success, as the Packers went on the road and defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs. Following that game, the Packers lost a tough one to the San Francisco 49ers. However, they proved that they belonged.

During free agency, Green Bay made a major splash in the running back market, as it signed Josh Jacobs and let Aaron Jones walk in free agency. Jones had been a very good running back for the Packers, but was often injured. The Packers will hope that Jacobs will be some more stability to the position for them.

Recently, Bleacher Report spoke about Jacobs being the X-factor for the Packers this season.

Here’s what they had to say.

“The Packers didn’t have running back Aaron Jones for stretches last season as he continually battled hamstring issues. However, Jones was back to 100 percent by the postseason and helped Green Bay rout the Cowboys and go toe-to-toe with the 49ers. The Packers replaced him this offseason with 2022 rushing champ Josh Jacobs.

The hope is that Jacobs can better provide more of a steady every-down presence in the backfield than the 29-year-old Jones did last season. However, Jacobs is also coming off of an injury-plagued campaign and a down season overall.

The Packers’ ability to improve offensively in 2024 will hinge heavily on which version of Jacobs they are inheriting and whether he can stay close to 100 percent.”

Can Josh Jacobs bounce back with the Packers after a rough 2023?

There is no denying that Jacobs had a very nice tenure from a production standpoint with the Raiders in five years. However, last season was not a good one for Jacobs coming off a big 2022 campaign. In Jacobs’ defense, the Raiders were a bit of a mess as an organization, and on the field.

Heading into 2024 with the Packers, Jacobs should be highly motivated to play for a contender with a strong system in place. From a roster point of view, Jacobs will have one of the best young quarterbacks in the league playing in the backfield alongside him, which should help keep defenses very honest against the Packers this coming season.

For the Packers, if Jacobs is able to find his form and run for 1,200-1,500 yards once again, they should be in for a great season.
