The NFC East is currently a two-horse race between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. Both these teams have been at the top of the division and have seen their fair share of success in the past few regular seasons. The Eagles have also made it to the Super Bowl just a year ago.

On the other hand, the New York Giants and the Washington Commanders have been struggling. While the Giants drafted one of the best college wide receivers in 2024 in Malik Nabers, the Commanders gave importance to the quarterback position in the first round.

So, how will the NFC East teams fare in the 2024 season?

    1. Philadelphia Eagles

Before the Eagles completely fell apart in the later stages of the 2023 regular season, they were 10-1 through 12 weeks. There were signs of struggle every now and then but they managed to win their games. In fact, Philly was a top-ten team in almost every single category with the exception of passing offense.

On the other hand, their defense was a disaster, most notably the secondary unit. Philadelphia was quite busy this offseason bringing in Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio as new offensive and defensive coordinators. They also added Saquon Barkley in the backfield which is an upgrade while they shored up the secondary through the draft.

If Jalen Hurts regains his 2022 form, the Eagles could be at the top of the NFC East again. Philadelphia should finish the year with a 12-5 record.

    2. Dallas Cowboys

For a long time the Dallas Cowboys were trailing the Philadelphia Eagles last season and were set to finish second in the NFC East until the famous fall from grace the Eagles encountered toward the end of the season. Nevertheless, Dallas was pretty good on both sides of the ball and quarterback Dak Prescott had a phenomenal year.

However, this year it feels like the Cowboys won’t be as good as last year. They have multiple key players whose contract extensions are still up in the air. The defense though should be even better with the return of Trevon Diggs from his ACL injury and if Mazi Smith can perform at a higher level then things could be different.

Nonetheless, with the tougher schedule, it looks like the Cowboys could finish with a 10-7 record and may end up missing the playoffs as well.

    3. Washington Commanders

The biggest news in Washington this offseason has been their No. 2 overall draft pick, which they used to select the 2023 Heisman winner Jayden Daniels. Yet, the Commanders have an uphill battle if they want to improve drastically this season.

In 2023, Washington was 25 in points per game scored, 27th in rushing offense, and 18th in passing offense, while they were worse on the defensive side allowing the most points per game of all 32 teams, 27th in rushing defense, and last again in passing defense.

At the moment Washington looks to be a rebuilding team who will need to put pieces around Daniels going forward should he be their long-time franchise QB. Having said that, the Commanders could finish the 2024 season with a 5-12 record.

    4. New York Giants

Talking about the New York Giants, here is another franchise that is struggling currently, especially with their quarterback play. Daniel Jones has been QB1 for the past five seasons since his rookie year in 2019 and has a dismal record of 22−36−1 in 59 starts.

Despite having the option to grab a quarterback in the draft, the Giants decided to put their faith in Jones and drafted talented wide receiver Malik Nabers. This is an exciting draft pick for sure, but the question remains whether or not Jones can do justice to his rookie receiver.

Furthermore, the Giants let star running back Saquon Barkley walk leaving a huge void in the backfield. How will that affect New York’s offense is another question that time will tell. Last season, the Giants were nearly last in passing offense while they were middle of the pack in rushing offense but with Barkley gone, the running game could take a hit.

All in all, things are not as promising for the blue side of New York and they will finish the season with a record of 3-13.
