NFL Analyst Has Major Concerns For Philadelphia Eagles In 2024

After getting to the brink of winning the Super Bowl in February 2023 and winning 10 of their first 11 games last season, the Philadelphia Eagles got their wings clipped down the stretch by losing five of their last six regular season games. Then in the wild-card round of the playoffs, they had their beaks ripped off by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 32-9 blowout defeat.

It resulted in plenty of rumors that head coach Nick Sirianni had lost the locker room and was on the hot seat. But he kept his job, and instead, the Eagles brought in a new defensive coordinator in Vic Fangio and a new offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore.

They then went out and made a big splash in free agency by nabbing star running back Saquon Barkley, and they also drafted two intriguing defensive backs in Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell. As a result, Philly fans have hope that the team will bounce back in a strong way this fall.

But Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager isn’t feeling that hope. He was asked whether the Eagles or Dallas Cowboys have bigger question marks heading into the season, and without hesitation, he said the Eagles. He cited the supposed disconnect between Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts as a big reason.

Has Nick Sirianni lost the Eagles’ locker room?

As Schrager pointed out, Sirianni is a very intense coach and leader, while Hurts is more even-keeled. The analyst also seemed the revive the question of whether Sirianni still has command of Philly’s locker room after three years as its head coach.

Sometimes, a head coach’s voice starts to wear out and become less effective after a few years, depending on certain factors. It’s especially true when a team fails to reach its potential, as the Eagles have over the last couple of years. Such a situation often makes a coach’s firing seem almost inevitable.

There is no doubt the Eagles have one of the NFL’s most talented rosters, and if they get their defense, which was very strong in 2022 but faltered in 2023, back on track, they should be able to challenge for a return trip to the Super Bowl.

But if they fall short of their potential again, especially if they have another weak finish to the season, look for the Sirianni-is-on-the-hot-seat rumors to start up again, and this time around, they could have more legs than they did six or seven months ago.
