Surprising Commanders Playmaker Earns Major Recognition

Fantasy Football draft season is upon us. People are gearing up for their leagues, looking for ways to find an advantage over their friends. One team that could provide you that edge is the Washington Commanders.

The Commanders are under new management heading into 2024. They have overhauled the entire franchise, from ownership down to the players on the roster.

Alex Peters is now leading the front office and Dan Quinn is the head coach. They have done a good job of restocking the roster this offseason, as Washington is looking to build the foundation for the future.

One of the players who has been carving out a role for himself is Jahan Dotson. A first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Penn State, Dotson wasn’t on many people’s radars coming into the summer.

Could Jahan Dotson break out for the Commanders?

Quinn has said the team is in search of a No. 2 receiver behind Terry McLaurin, which would hint that they aren’t high on what Dotson is bringing to the table. But more importantly, he looks to be cementing his role as the slot receiver in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense.

That is a very productive spot to be in, which is why Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report is buying Dotson after Week 2 of the preseason. For Fantasy Football, his arrow is pointing way up.

“Between 2019 and 2021, Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk and DeAndre Hopkins all flourished as Kingsbury’s primary slot receiver.

In 2019, both Fitzgerald and Kirk saw a lot of time in the slot. They finished as WR35 and WR38 in PPR leagues, respectively. As the Cardinals’ primary slot wideout in 2020, Hopkins finished the term as WR4. Again, Kirk carved out a big role in the slot for the 2021 term and finished as WR26,” Moton wrote.

That kind of upside should have Dotson on a lot of people’s radars as someone who will outperform their average draft position. Moton is buying the Commanders’ pass catcher over players such as New Orleans Saints’ Rashid Shaheed, Seattle Seahawks‘ Tyler Lockett and New York Jets’ Mike Williams.

Dotson isn’t going to usurp McLaurin as the No. 1 option in the passing game, but he is playing a role that will produce numbers. On a team projected to be losing a lot, that is gold in the Fantasy Football world.
