5 NFL Players Who Could Be Traded After Week 1

The 2024 NFL season is well and truly underway, as Week 1 is now over with. We saw some enthralling games in the first week of football and teams have gotten a general understanding of where they lie at the moment.

There were a couple of surprises, some come-from-behind wins, and some heartbreaking losses. With the possibility of trading for players still open, few players could be on the radar of teams as they try to bolster their squads with new talent.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at five NFL players who could be traded after Week 1.

Treylon Burks – Wide Receiver – Tennessee Titans

Wide receiver Treylon Burks is currently playing with the Tennessee Titans where he is quite behind the pecking order in this new-look roster. Along with DeAndre Hopkins whom the Titans have had since last year, they added reliable pass catches Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd to the squad.

Moreover, the Titans may look to move on from Burks as he hasn’t managed to be the consistent receiver they were hoping for and now with the core receiving unit formed, Tennessee could bid adieu to their former first-round pick.

Burks was expected to be taken in the first round of the 2022 draft which means he has the potential to turn his career around. If any team is willing to take a chance on him then the Titans could be open for a trade.

Jonathan Jones – Cornerback – New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are pretty strong on the defensive side of the ball but it is the offense that is really struggling. Not much is expected from the Patriots offensively this year and that is perhaps one of the main reasons why rookie QB Drake Maye has not been named the starting QB.

New England needs weapons on the offense and in order to do that they may need to turn their attention to their defense and part ways with a couple of players. Cornerback, Jonathan Jones may be one of the players the Patriots would be willing to trade as he should have some suitors in the league. Teams in need of a starting corner could look to pursue Jones soon.

Robert Woods – Wide Receiver – Houston Texans

Wide receiver Robert Woods is facing a situation similar to that of Treylon Burks. The Texans had a high-flying offense last season with rookie CJ Stroud under center. With 2,000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns between Nico Collins and Tank Dell, the Texans’ offense flourished to new heights. Additionally, tight end Dalton Schultz also emerged as a leading candidate as a pass catcher.

During the 2024 offseason, with the addition of Stefon Diggs, Houston has a plethora of options and Woods is quite low on the depth chart. Trading Woods to another team would also result in $6.5 million in cap savings.

Haason Reddick – Edge – New York Jets

Former Philadelphia Eagle edge rusher Haason Reddick was traded to the New York Jets in April 2024. Unfortunately, Reddick sat out of the entire training camp and preseason and is also set to miss out on regular season games due to a contract holdout. Apparently Reddick is looking for an extension and the Jets are not meeting his requirements.

The longer this holdout continues, the more difficult the situation becomes for New York as Reddick, still only 29 years old, is a defensive menace who would make any team better. He will have no shortage of takers in case the Jets are looking to move on from him.

Darius Slayton – Wide Receiver – New York Giants

The New York Giants are one of the struggling teams in the league currently and it could be important to them to trade some of the players who will become free agents at the end of the year. One player they may want to offload is wide receiver Darius Slayton.

Slayton however, has been the most consistent receiver for the Giants over the years. With their first round pick from this year’s draft, New York selected Malik Nabors who is undoubtedly WR1 on the team and will lead the receiving unit going forward. Alongside Nabors, the Giants are likely to feature Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt as the core receivers which means Slayton’s playing time could be slashed significantly.
