Caleb Williams’ primetime debut left Chicago Bears fans with anything but a reason to celebrate. The quarterback was hyped up as a number of things, but after losing to CJ Stroud, his ceiling has only gotten lower.

That said, there is one key reason for Bears fans to have hope.

Here’s a look at two key observations about the quarterback after two games.

Caleb Williams not likely to be this year’s C.J. Stroud

At this point, it would take a radical U-turn for the Bears quarterback to prove himself to be this year’s version of CJ Stroud. Not only has Williams succumbed to the Texans quarterback, but he has logged zero touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. While he was able to pull off a miracle last week, this week he was unable to repeat the feat.

At this point, Williams is not the instant savior for the Bears. That isn’t to say he can’t give fans flashes or look great at times this season. However, the idea that he can avoid an uncharacteristic rookie season of struggle is essentially out the window. If the Bears are going to right the ship, they are going to need to lean on D’Andre Swift, DJ Moore, and will need Keenan Allen to get healthy quickly.

While his touchdown-interception ratio only got worse on Sunday Night Football, there are a few other key areas that did see a big jump in improvement. Last week, Williams completed just 48% of his passes. On Sunday Night Football, he completed 62% of his throws. While it would be ideal to see him get closer to 70%, he did see a 14% improvement in a single game.

The two interceptions were unfortunate, but a jump in accuracy like this in one game is encouraging. If he could just avoid the two mistakes, it would have essentially been an improvement across the board. Williams also threw for more yards in Week 2 than he did in Week 1. His stat line improved in more ways than it got worse, so one could argue he is developing, which is encouraging.

It will take Week 3 to confirm the trend, but thus far, Caleb Williams appears to be improving, regardless of the team’s result of the game.
