Dallas Cowboys Linked To Former Pro Bowl RB

The Dallas Cowboys have plenty of reasons to have players actively avoiding new sites and newspapers. After losing to the Baltimore Ravens in a game in which the final score doesn’t tell the whole story, it’s time to look for some solutions for some of the holes on the team. Writing in a September 23 article on Bleacher Report, the writing staff concluded that Aaron Jones would help the Cowboys much more than he would hurt them.

“Jones could be that option seeing as he has roughly 280 catches for about 2,100 receiving yards in his career. While the 29-year-old, who turns 30 in December, won’t have a long tenure with the club, that will also help keep his price tag down especially if it means playing for a potential Super Bowl contender,” they wrote.

Currently, the Cowboys have Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle leading the backfield. At this point, neither options appears to have long-term legs. This leaves Jerry Jones with some shopping to do. Instead of trying out the NFL Draft in 2025, Jones could be free in terms of draft capital.

The Cowboys are not a full month into the season yet but appear already to have big holes to fill on the roster. In addition to picking up Jones, they may also need to pick up a backup running back. Both Elliott and Dowdle are on the final year of their deals and unless either explodes, both might be expendable.

This leaves Jones with a need to either look deeper into the free agency market or turn toward the NFL Draft. Assuming the Cowboys keep somewhat pace with their 2021-2023 pace of double-digit wins, they could be in line for a draft pick that lines up perfectly with the best running back that comes out of the 2024 college season.

Considering Jerry Jones was able to find Ezekiel Elliott once, he is perfectly qualified to find a similar quality running back once again. Even if it takes the rookie a season to warm up, he will already have Aaron Jones to learn from and work behind. Will Jones add to his offensive backfield this season?
