Why the Kansas City Chiefs Should Trade for Amari Cooper

The Kansas City Chiefs who are on a mission to accomplish history this season by becoming the first team in the NFL’s Super Bowl era to win three consecutive Super Bowls are now struggling with some serious injury worries.

Most of the Chiefs’ key injuries are on the offensive side of the ball as their newly signed WR1 for the season Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown is out for the season. This was then followed by a broken fibula injury to running back Isiah Pacheco who is set to miss 6-8 weeks minimum and the latest string of bad news comes from their current number one receiver Rashee Rice who is feared to have torn his ACL.

Rice’s injury took place in Kansas City’s Week 4 game against the LA Chargers in a bizarre fashion. After the Chiefs’ quarterback, Patrick Mahomes threw an interception to cornerback Kristian Fulton, he and Rice both made an effort to tackle Fulton but Mahomes ended up taking out his receiver instead. As a matter of fact, the injury looks to be quite serious as Rice had to be carted off the field and there is growing concern that he may have torn his ACL.

Losing Rice for the season will be a crucial blow to Kansas City and their chances at history given that the second-year receiver was their leading pass catcher through three games and was on par for a huge season.

Amidst all this, the Cleveland Browns are struggling to get their season going after their Week 4 loss to the Raiders means they are now 1-3 on the season. The way things are going in Cleveland, the Browns look far from salvaging their season.

With the Chiefs losing two key receivers, they may be looking to add a top target man such as the Browns’ Amari Cooper who has recently reworked his contract till the end of the season. However, that means Cooper will become a free agent by the end of the 2024 season and Cleveland could use this opportunity to get something in return if they are willing to part ways with their star receiver.

Despite being 30 years old, the Kansas City Chiefs could sign Cooper on a one-year deal which would be a win-win situation for both parties. Cooper has put together consecutive 1000+ receiving yard seasons in 2022 and 2023 and could contribute significantly should the trade materialize.
