3 Major Concerns For Philadelphia Eagles After Week 4

The Philadelphia Eagles took perhaps their most painful loss of the season yet in Week 4, as Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers uncorked a blowout on Jalen Hurts’ team by a score of 33-16.

The loss prompts massive questions about the team, seemingly setting a ceiling for them in the NFC. However, this is just one of the big worries facing the Eagles after four games.

Hot seat warming for Nick Sirianni

Nick Sirianni helped give Eagles fans a Super Bowl appearance. However, the team has trended down ever since. With Jalen Hurts under contract, the only major move on the board aside from rebuilding the entire roster surrounding Hurts is to move on from Sirianni. For the head coach to avoid that fate, the Eagles need to spin something up this week against the Cleveland Browns. Put simply, a close win over the 1-3 unit while coming off the bye won’t be enough.

Wide receiver injuries catching up

AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith have both had trouble staying healthy this year. With both players sidelined, the offense is compromised, despite having arguably the best running back in the NFL this season in Saquon Barkley. For the Eagles to right the ship, they need their top two receivers. If both injuries become multi-month sagas, Eagles fans might as well tune in next season.

Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive woes return

If the offense can’t perform consistently, then the team’s defense must pick up the slack. However, after holding down the New Orleans Saints in Week 3, the team’s defensive struggles re-emerged. This means that the team’s defensive troubles could be here to stay this season. Even if they perform well in a few weeks, they can’t be relied upon consistently.

Thus far, the defense has given up 29 and 33 points in two of their games. They also have had two games where they gave up 12 and 22 points. If the defense keeps playing hot and cold and the offense stays down, the Philadelphia Eagles will be .500 this season, which indicates a continued decline for the franchise.
