Alabama’s food scene loves blending comfort with sophistication, and this Baked Brie in Puff Pastry is a perfect example of that. The creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture of brie, combined with the buttery layers of pastry, and the delightful crunch of walnuts, all finished off with a touch of sweetness from honey, is pure Southern charm. Whether you’re in Birmingham or the heart of Montgomery, this dish will feel like home, adding a touch of elegance to your table without being too fussy.

Here’s how you can make this delightful appetizer and impress your family or guests with some true Alabama hospitality.

Baked Brie in Puff Pastry with Walnuts and Honey Recipe

    Ingredients:

    • 1 round of brie (about 8 ounces)
    • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)
    • ¼ cup chopped walnuts
    • 3 tablespoons honey (plus extra for drizzling)
    • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
    • Crackers, apple slices, or toasted bread for serving

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    2. Prepare the puff pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry until it’s large enough to fully wrap the brie. Place the brie in the center of the pastry sheet.
    3. Add the toppings: Spread 2 tablespoons of honey over the top of the brie. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts evenly over the honey.
    4. Wrap the brie: Carefully fold the puff pastry over the brie, ensuring it’s completely sealed. Pinch the edges to secure it and brush the surface of the pastry with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
    5. Bake the brie: Place the wrapped brie on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.
    6. Finishing touches: Once the brie is out of the oven, allow it to cool for about 5 minutes. Drizzle extra honey over the top and garnish with a few more walnuts if desired.
    7. Serve and enjoy: Serve the baked brie warm with crackers, apple slices, or toasted bread. The melted cheese and flaky pastry will pair perfectly with the sweet honey and crunchy walnuts.

This baked brie recipe brings together the best of Alabama’s flavors: simplicity with a hint of indulgence. Whether you’re hosting a casual weekend get-together or preparing for a special event, this dish is sure to become a crowd favorite. I’ve prepared this for years. But here we put peaches and crushed pecans on top then honey before we finish with puff pastry. So good!
