Summers County Performing Arts to begin fall semester
HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) - Summers County Performing Arts, under the direction of Artistic Director Lisa Ann Colombo, will begin its fall semester on August 26. Ballet, jazz, tap, pointe, piano, voice, actor’s connection, violin, line dancing and ballroom dancing are among the classes offered. The studio, located at 211 Temple Street in historic downtown Hinton, is a professional performing arts studio. Summers County Performing Arts is an approved education service provider for the Hope Scholarship. Comedy Night at The Ritz Theatre
HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – A night of laughter is coming to Hinton as the Ritz Theatre hosts a comedy show on August 22. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m. Headlining the event is Seattle-based comedian Andrew Rivers, who has opened for Christopher Titus and is currently on tour with Steve Hofstetter. Rivers has also released several comedy specials, including one on Dry Bar Comedy. Opening for Rivers is Luke Severeid, a Pittsburgh comedian who recently reached the semifinals of the San Francisco & Seattle Comedy International Comedy Competition. Local comedian Chase Jobe will host the evening. Jobe, a Hinton native, has been making a name for himself on the comedy circuit and was a finalist in the Caravan Comedy Contest in Louisville, Kentucky, earlier this year. Artist Dimeji Onafuwa to hold exhibit at Concord University
ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will host an exhibit and lecture by Artist and Concord University Alum, Dr. Dimeji Onafuwa beginning later this month. Dr. Dimeji Onafuwa is a multifaceted Nigerian born artist. His expertise extends beyond the canvas. He is also an educator and UX leader. He holds a PHD in Transition Design from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied design’s contribution to the new commons, a concept he terms as “recommoning.” He has been invited to deliver conference keynotes, participate in podcasts, and lead workshops worldwide. Topics he covers range from art and alternative economics to transition design, the pluriverse, the commons, allyship, and algorithmic bias.
