Explosion At CDC Bruceton Research Center
The explosion happened at the Burceton Research Center located at 649 Cochran Mill Road in Jefferson Hills around 12:48 p.m. on Friday, a CDC official told us. The CDC shares the site with two other federal agencies, and an outside vendor was "loading hazardous waste material into a truck for disposal was injured and was taken to an area hospital by ambulance," the spokesperson said noting that, "No federal staff were involved in the incident and there was no damage to the property."

Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education
Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education. has received new funding from the United States Department of Health and Human Services in support of the West Virginia Health Start/Helping Appalachian Parents and Infants (HAPI) program. The initiative offers support to local health organizations in communities with high rates of infant mortality and negative maternal health outcomes. Over the next five years, HAPI will receive $1.1 million annually to support operations in existing participating communities, as well as expand operations to four new West Virginia counties.
WVU fall camp preview: Defensive Line
It's about that time again, which is crazy because it feels like just yesterday I was writing the spring camp previews. Back then, football preparation was taking a backseat to the pending basketball coaching search. This time around, fall camp will be in the spotlight of the WVU sports world. Today we continue the position-by-position preview for preseason camp. The Mountaineers went 9-4 last season, including beating up on UNC in a bowl game that ended with Neal Brown being covered in mayonnaise. West Virginia football enters the 2024 season with significant wind in its sails, so fall camp should be particularly interesting to watch next month. Salmonbellies Leapfrog Into Second Place
The New Westminster Salmonbellies were able to leapfrog over two other teams into second place with a convincing 17-4 win over the Coquitlam Adanacs on Thursday night. The Salmonbellies jumped over the Langley Thunder and Maple Ridge Burrards for second place in the tight WLA playoff race. Coquitlam’s playoff chances are fading quickly.
