    REPORT: Niskayuna among fastest-growing housing markets

    NISKAYUNA, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Niskayuna has been named one of the fastest-growing housing markets, according to a new report by StorageCafe . Overall, Niskayuna was ranked sixth.

    StorageCafe, a website that provides storage unit listings across the United States, used Census data to look at over 4,000 cities with a population of over 10,000. The cities were ranked based on the increase in housing inventory from 2013 to 2022.

    According to the data, the housing stock in Niskayuna rose by 368% for a total of 8,434 homes from 2013 to 2022. The population also increased by 319% for a total population of 20,629 in 2022.

    Nationwide, the fastest housing growth was in Texas and Florida, with seven suburbs in Texas and five in Florida making up the Top 20, according to the study. The number one fastest-growing housing market was in Vineyard, Utah with a 7,204% increase in housing stock, followed by Blackwells Mills, New Jersey with a 1,980% increase.

    Out of the almost 4,100 U.S. cities, where did the other Capital Region municipalities fall on the list?

    • East Glenville ranked 53 with an 89% increase in housing stock over a decade
    • Rotterdam ranked 912 with a 16% increase in housing stock over a decade
    • Saratoga Springs ranked 1,220 with a 12% increase in housing stock over a decade
    • Watervliet ranked 1,592 with a 9% increase in housing stock over a decade
    • Troy ranked 1,776 with a 8% increase in housing stock over a decade
    • Albany ranked 2,038 with a 6% increase in housing stock over a decade
    • Cohoes ranked 2,251 with a 5% increase in housing stock over a decade
    • Schenectady ranked 3,177 with a 1% increase in housing stock over a decade

    In the report, places with a population under 150,000 were labeled as suburbs, and exurbs are considered to have a population density of under 250 residents per square mile . Places with over 150,000 are labeled as cities. You can read the full report on the StorageCafe website .
