Tax Court Digest: July 24, 2024
Appellants appealed correspondence from the Taxpayer Rights Advocate Office of the Commissioner (TRA) denying their request for reconsideration of an Offer in Compromise that the Collection Division of the Minnesota Department of Revenue previously denied. The Commissioner moved to dismiss appeal on the grounds that decisions of the TRA to issue or not to issue a taxpayer assistance order are final and not appealable to any court, including the tax court, under Minn. Stat. § 270C.37, subd. 6. The Tax Court agreed that the TRA decision was not appealable. Motion granted.
2026 Illinois quarterback Owen Lansu commits to Minnesota Football
Quarterback recruiting is getting earlier by the year, and one of the top Midwest signal callers in the 2026 cycle is Downers Grove (Ill.) North's Owen Lansu. In his first extended varsity action last fall, Lansu threw for more than 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns as a sophomore, which led to nearly ten offers coming in already from places like Minnesota, Cincinnati and Northwestern among others.

Minnesota is getting a new area code, here's what you should know
ROCHESTER, Minn. — People calling from southern Minnesota could soon start popping up on your phone under a new area code. Final preparations are underway for the rollout of the new 924 area code, which will overlap with the current 507 area code serving southern Minnesota, including communities like Rochester, Austin, Mankato, Winona and Worthington. It will be the first such "area code overlay" in Minnesota; previous area code changes in the state involved carving out a new geographic region from a previous area code.

As part of a series of nationwide cycling events, the Wounded Warrior Project aims to help veterans restore their physical and emotional well-being while fostering community connections. MSP searching for truck involved in hit and run in Burnsville
(ABC 6 News) — Minnesota State Patrol is requesting help from the public to find a truck involved in a hit and run crash in Bursnville, per a post to its Facebook page. The crash occurred earlier this month on July 17th just before 3 AM on Highway 13 between Washburn and Chowen Avenues and left a pedestrian seriously injured.
