Salad-and-bowl chain Sweetgreen plans to make its Union County debut.

The Los Angeles-based fast-casual brand is scheduled to open later this year at 221 East Broad St. in Westfield. Sweetgreen offers customizable bowls, salads and sides made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Since its founding 17 years ago, the chain now has more than 230 locations nationwide.

Within New Jersey, Sweetgreen has locations in:

    • Morristown

    • Hackensack

    • Shrewsbury

    • Marlton

    • Montclair

    • Jersey City

The brand also plans to launch soon in Montvale.

Commenting on Sweetgreen’s upcoming arrival in Westfield, Mayor Shelley Brindle said she’s thrilled to welcome the brand to her community.

“This immensely popular fast casual salad restaurant is known for its freshly sourced ingredients and sustainable practices and is sure to attract residents and visitors from surrounding towns when it opens later this year,” the Democratic mayor shared in a social media post.

“Once again, another high-quality national brand has chosen to invest in Westfield signifying a huge vote of confidence in our future. The Town of Westfield, New Jersey remains committed to partnering with the Downtown Westfield Corporation to attract new businesses by investing in infrastructure, modern parking solutions, streetscape improvements, public art, & beautification projects to continue to bring growth and vibrancy to our downtown,” Brindle added.
