Cooling stations to be available Saturday through Tuesday
MARYVILLE, Mo. — With heat indices forecast to soar over 100 degrees over the next few days, cooling stations will be open to the public from Saturday through Tuesday. According to an email from Nodaway County Emergency Management Director Christy Forney, the following locations in Maryville will be available as cooling stations during the hours listed:
Special Olympians earn medals, make memories at State Summer Games
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Nodaway County Services sponsored seven local athletes earlier this month at the Missouri Special Olympics’ State Summer Games in Columbia. The event was hosted by the University of Missouri and Hickman High School and included over 1,000 athletes, coaches, volunteers and Unified partners. The Maryville group included six returners from last season and one newcomer.
Nodaway County collision injures 1
(Maryville) -- One person was injured a two-vehicle collision in Nodaway County Tuesday morning. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 71 two miles south of Maryville shortly before 8:10 a.m. Authorities say a 2001 Chevy Silverado, driven by 60-year-old Brenda Stiens of Maryville, was southbound on 71 when it slowed to turn east onto 300th Street. The patrol says a southbound 2016 Ford Fusion, driven by 32-year-old Lauren Black of Maryville, then struck the towed unit of the Chevy before coming to rest on its wheels in the median facing south. The Chevy was driven from the scene to a safe location.
Area animal shelter facing overcrowding crisis as adoptions decrease
(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Nodaway County Humane Society (NCHS) is one of the many animal shelters around the area struggling with overcrowding in their shelters. Funding and donations are helping these shelters scrape by and make it possible to provide the essential care for the animals left in their care, but with the increase of animals being abandoned by their past owner or being dropped off at the shelter, they are finding it even more difficult to continue taking in animals due to the lack of funds and room available.
