Fairview Heights restaurant demolitions coming soon
Considered by many as a long-standing eyesore in a prominent location in Fairview Heights, the structure which at one time served as a location for a restaurant called Smokey Bones is expected to be demolished this summer, according to the city’s director of land use and development, Dallas Alley.
New Restaurant and Event Space to Open in Alton
ALTON - Owner Lisa Brown promises “elegantly classy” vibes at her new restaurant and event space in downtown Alton. The Renaissance X will host its grand opening from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024. Located at 401 Piasa Street in Alton at the former site of The Lovejoy, the restaurant will offer Sunday jazz brunches, craft cocktails, sports and more. During their grand opening on Friday, community members can enjoy music by Just In Time and a local DJ, vendors and food trucks.
IDOT checks for post-flooding damage
All in all, an IDOT engineer says Tuesday’s flash flooding did not cause as much damage as one might think. Some bridge deck repairs will be needed on 4 or 5 structures, and there has also been some exposed guardrail posts and damage to the reservoir wall near the city of Nashville.
Dogs pulled from flooded St. Clair County Animal Services building, fosters needed
ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. — Several animals were rescued from rising waters Tuesday as St. Clair County Animal Services in Belleville was flooded. A Facebook live posted by Gateway Pet Guardians showed people carrying dogs through high water onto dry ground and loading them into crates to take back to their shelter.

ST. LOUIS — A Mizzou star and Lutheran South graduate could play his professional football in his home town. The St. Louis Battlehawks selected Cody Schrader in the second round of the United Football League's college player draft on Wednesday. Schrader was eligible for the UFL College Draft after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Wright City woman killed in crash on I-70 westbound at Blanchette Memorial Bridge
ST CHARLES, Mo. — A Wright City woman died Wednesday after a crash on westbound Interstate 70 involving a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles. The crash happened just past the Blanchette Memorial Bridge over the Missouri River. A traffic camera showed a backup on I-70, multiple firetrucks and law enforcement SUVs on Wednesday.
Flash flood victims identified, remembered
The Alton couple who died in a flash flood event in Jersey County has been identified. Terry and Carolyn Dooley perished when their car was overcome by water along Beltrees Road, east of Fessler Road, near Mill Creek not far from Elsah. The driver of another car that was also trapped by the rising water was able to call 9-1-1 to report the emergency and was later rescued.
