2024 VHSL Boys Basketball Region Brackets (Virginia) Class 5 Region B Boys

It is late February and that means VHSL basketball regionals are well underway. After taking care of Bethel 53-47 on Saturday, the King’s Fork Bulldogs are set to square off against the Maury Commodores at Echols Hall on the campus of Norfolk State University on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m., in the Region 5B semifinals.

Despite two close losses against Oscar Smith and Hampton to start February, the Bulldogs have put themselves in a position to make a deep postseason run. A run that starts with a tough Maury team.

Coach Rick Hite says the early non-conference schedule prepares his team for a postseason run.

“Outside of the Smith and Hampton games, we have always challenged ourselves with tough nonconference games,” Hite told the Suffolk News-Herald. “Games we feel will help us come late February and hopefully into March.”

Knowing what is at stake, Hite says his Bulldogs are ready for the challenges Maury presents.

“I believe it’s going to come down to who can get stops and who can execute,” Hite said. “It’s a fun time of the year and we have been looking forward to it. We will be ready!”

The Bulldogs will rely on the scoring of junior Adarius Boston, who has averaged 20.4 points a game since the loss to Hampton back in early February. Sophomore Zyon McGlone, who is also averaging 12.6 points a game since the Hampton game, will also need to contribute on the offensive end of the floor.

The winner will face the winner between Woodside and Norview on Friday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m. at Echols Hall.
