10 On Your Side’s KaMaria Braye was at the airport Friday morning speaking to travelers about the outage.

One traveler, Jason Graham, said he was on his way back home to California after welcoming his daughter back home from her deployment on the USS Eisenhower.

“It hasn’t been a good experience leaving this place,” Graham said. “She came back from the Eisenhower for deployment for nine months. So, yeah, we got to visit her. It was delayed on Wednesday. Twice, then canceled. Then we had to stay. Two days to leave this morning. And I was like, ‘Oh please let me get out of here.’ And so now it looks like it’s delayed again for the fourth time.”

“It’s just frustrating, and we just hope that it resolves itself soon so we can get to our trip,” another traveler Katelyn Bryant said. “And I feel bad for people who are going to see their family, so yeah, it’s not very fun.”

Bryant said she was trying to get to Mexico.

“It’s overwhelming,” Bryant said. “Come downstairs and people are everywhere. People are sitting down. People are certainly upset. I just told my mom and my sister that we only needed to get here, you know, an hour and a half ahead of time. Didn’t know it needed to be super, super early.”

One family on their way to a funeral in Tampa said the outage was going to make them miss their connecting flight.

In response to the outage, the FAA posted , “We continue to work closely with airlines as they work to resume normal operations. Ground stops and delays will be intermittent at various airports as the airlines work through residual technology issues. Contact the airlines for more information. Monitor http://fly.faa.gov .”

10 On Your Side reached out to the airlines about the outage. United Airlines released this statement:

A third party software outage is impacting computer systems worldwide, including at United. We are resuming some flights but expect schedule disruptions to continue throughout Friday. We have issued a waiver to make it easier for customers to change their travel plans via United.com or the United app.

    United Airlines media relations

As of 6 a.m. on Friday, American Airlines resumed flights at ORF.

Delta posted to X about the outage, telling customers to check the Fly Delta app for any updates.

Norfolk International Airport posted images to social media, showing its employees handing out water to help keep passengers hydrated.

Riverside responded to a request from WAVY and confirmed it was impacted. A spokesperson provided this statement:

Around midnight, Crowdstrike, the anti-virus software company ran a worldwide update, which has resulted in mass impacts to businesses. Like so many, Riverside has been affected. To ensure safe patient care continues, we activated our standard “downtime” protocols around 3 a.m. Our IT team and operational leaders have done an incredible job assessing the impact on our system and continue to actively work to resolve the issue. Patient care is continuing as normal across our system and we encourage all patients to continue to come in for their scheduled care. As this evolves, we will provide updates on our website at riversideonline.com/outageupdates . Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Other businesses in our area, such as Amtrak and the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) stated the outage has not impacted their operations.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin addressed the global tech outages. He said, “As a result of the administrative disturbances, Virginians may experience delays and we ask everyone to remain patient as we work to remedy and reestablish the high standards that Virginians deserve.”

Microsoft 365 posted to their X account about the outage, saying that users should continue to see “gradual relief” throughout the day.
